Updated: Sep 8, 2022

Introducing the new WOMANS BALANCE LUXURY FULL BODY MASSAGE

Find your rhythm, naturally, with a top to toe full body massage treatment using Neal’s Yard Remedies Women’s Balance Massage Oil to help harmonise body and mind, supporting a sense of balance through hormonal and stressful challenges, for people of all ages and life stages.

How do hormonal and stressful challenges affect us?

Throughout our menstrual cycle, changes in estrogen and progesterone levels can influence our serotonin levels. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that sends signals between your nerve cells and it is the chemical that helps with regulating your sleep, appetite and mood. Low levels of serotonin have been linked to feelings of sadness and irritability as well as trouble sleeping and unusual food cravings which are all common PMS symptoms.

Along with this can come a lot of stress. Stress is the body’s reaction when we feel under pressure or threatened and it usually happens when we are in a situation with demands and pressures that we don’t feel we can manage or control, or that our knowledge and abilities are not matched to cope with. It is important to remember that the level of stress that one induvial is comfortable with may be higher or lower than that of another person. In some circumstances, a small amount of stress can be motivating by helping us achieve things in our daily lives but when stress starts to last for a long time or is very intense, that is when it becomes a problem and can start to affect our physical and emotional/mental health.

Stress and our unbalanced hormones can have a combined effect on anxiety levels and unmanaged stress can worsen mood swings (as well as so many other symptoms – but that’s for another blog post!). When a person is experiencing stress, whether it be low-level (acute) or high-level (chronic), cortisol increases, which slows your body’s ability to make testosterone. The combined effect of increased cortisol and lowered testosterone can cause you to feel more anxious.

How can massage help with hormonal and stressful challenges?

Massage aids in the reduction of cortisol (the stress hormone) and can help to reduce levels of adrenaline and norepinephrine, hormones produced by the adrenal glands which activate the fight or flight response and increases serotonin and dopamine, which are the body’s feel-good chemicals.

Massage also assists the endocrine system (the glands and organs that make hormones) in the following ways:

Balancing mood

Controlling stress levels

Inspiring relaxation

Reducing pain

The Massage Oil

A balancing blend of relaxing patchouli, uplifting geranium, nurturing rose and rejuvenating frankincense work together by helping to relax and calm your mind, while your skin is nourished and conditioned with macadamia and sea buckthorn oils. This blend is expertly formulated to give a sense of balance to the body’s natural rhythms and cycles.

Here are some of the key ingredients of the Essential Oil Blend:

Rose Absolut Flower Extract

Naturally balancing, soothing and revitalising, Rose Absolut has long been used to support emotional balance throughout a woman’s life.

*Fun Fact*

According to Greek Mythology it was Aphrodite, Goddess of Love, who gave the Rose its name.

Geranium

Geranium essential oil is traditionally used for its regulating effect, as well as cooling and calming the mind whilst relaxing the body and easing any frustration and irritability.

Frankincense

Traditionally used to aid meditation and/or prayer, Frankincense brings a sense of peace and mental clarity.

Here are some of the key ingredients and the benefits to the skin:

Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil

Rich in antioxidant vitamins C and E, sea buckthorn oil contains high level of fatty acids, in particular Omega-7, which helps nourish and repair skin as well as maintaining the skin barrier and promoting elasticity and hydration.

Organic Macadamia Oil

Helps to soften, smooth and intensively nourish the skin, as well as balancing sebum production.

Organic Wheatgerm Oil

Readily absorbed into the skin, it helps to nourish and smooth dry and cracked skin.

Organic Sunflower Seed Oil

Sunflower seed oil is known for its emollient and hydrating properties which helps create a natural protective layer on the skin.

Organic Aloe Vera

Extremely soothing and cooling, an excellent moisturiser.

Hyaluronic Acid

This ingredient acts as a moisture trap for the epidermis (the outermost layer of skin on the body) and helps to increase skin hydration for more supple, comfortable and healthy looking skin.
